2022: Beauty & Wellness Ideas Continued 🌿

Last year’s January blog post shared some ideas on Beauty & Wellness.

These reminders included a recipe inspiring a DIY in making your own homemade facial, and on the importance of practicing good posture.

This year, here are some thoughts on a spiritual principle that will support anyone on their beauty and wellness journey, and that is the principle of compassion.

This post will share some understandings on some traditional Chinese characters I have learned about and the principle of compassion.

Beauty in Compassion ❤️ (shan)🌿

Compassion goes two ways-being kind and forgiving towards ourselves, and practicing it towards others.

According to traditional Chinese, the characters of 善 compassion and 美 beauty have the same top (radical) part which represents the character 羊 (sheep/lamb/goat). Compassion also involves the bottom character - 言 (speak, speech).

So, to cultivate beauty and wellness, we must speak thoughts of compassion, towards ourselves and one another.

Let’s look deeper into the meaning of the shared top radical 羊 (sheep/lamb/goat) and what it represents.

According to my Chinese teacher,  the lamb/sheep/goat 羊 character represents a good meaning, such as

1. kind/gentle

🌿💖🌿🐑🌿💖🌿

2. self-sacrifice

(for example, altruism)/rituals.

Practicing compassion for oneself and others is a lifelong pursuit.

Beauty and wellness is not just about the material body and environment we live in and preserve in aesthetic value, but also embodying the spiritual, like principles of compassion. Hope this year is one of practicing compassion daily, for yourself and others, this 2022. ❤️🌿
